Although the Vava'u Secondary School Sports team did not win the 2009 Inter College Sports competition, April 15-17, they still had a reason to celebrate last night after winning 52 medals, Vava'u's best ever performance.
The sports team who consisted of 60 athletes from five different High Schools in Neiafu had their moment of glory after leading the sports competition in the first two days.
They celebrated with a special dinner hosted by the Tonga National Cultural Centre.
At the conclusion of the competition on Friday, April 17 the Vava'u team was placed second to the winner Tonga High School with the most medals, but in the top schools ranking, which was based on the most gold medals, they came in fifth place with 15 golds.
The majority of the 60 students in the team came from Saineha High School who won this year's Vava'u sports competition. The rest came from the Vava'u High School, Kelana, Tailulu College and Mailefihi College.
Vava'u won a total 48 medals in last year's Inter College Sports Competition.
