Editor,
I am relieved to read constructive and variety perceptions among author's of Letters to The Editor of Matangi Tonga (MT) regarding Reform in Tonga. This is vital as evidence for our achievement in life. We are people from all walks of life who discussed constructively about betterment for us and generations to come! Most importantly, MT gives less attention to personal attack and the public their right to express their thoughts and opinions. In my viewpoint, the triumph of discussion about Democracy and Monarchy is the Adjusted Monarchy proposal. Mr. Rob Allaburton (an Australian Management Consultant 1996) stress in one of his short term courses conducted in Tonga Change, that it is better to adopt incremental changes rather than big changes. If you are ignorant to believe/think going from "Pure Monarchy" to "Pure Democracy" is not a big change, please outline the democratic changes you wish to see and we will discuss their impacts, appropriateness and so forth.
There are few Tongan website which critically dedicated to review and express opinions on Tonga. Media in Tonga is a joke or even worse implied as a "coconut wireless" most of the time as they discussed reform in Tonga. I believe that media financial status and staff journalism skills are a major issue in media practice. Yet, media had an obligation which should not be restricted to the truth, evidence and rational comments based on findings from reliable sources and/or official sources. The one thing seems to be missing in our media is giving a chance for an individual/partner/group/organization to make comments in matters to be published about them. I am not saying that media should await written reply all the times. Media should make an effort to ask for a response even if the response is "No comment".
Perhaps, we may continue another day and I will rest my case here.
