Tonga's Giant Trevally is attracting Japanese anglers to Vava'u and their activities have been filmed for Japanese television.

Japan's leading television show TV Shinamo recently filmed a documentary on the giant fish featuring four times International Game Fishing Association record holder Kenzaburo Fukui.

Jeff Lestrange of the Hakula Lodge in Neiafu said Japanese fishermen are keen on fishing the Giant Trevally and Tonga has some big ones, which are usually found close to rough spots near reefs and surfs.

He said upon his invitation and of the Tonga International Game Fishing Association, Kenzaburo Fukui of Japan arrived in Tonga with Shinamo TV Cameraman Shoji Igarashi.

"Ken came to test his skills against Tonga's monster Giant Trevallys and was recorded for TV Shinamo. We hope that this TV program will be aired in Japan to encourage Japanese anglers to visit Tonga."

Jeff said they now had guides and operators who can give world-class service to the demanding Japanese fishermen.
