Kaveinga Na'ati and Taulea Pau: use your real names! [1]

Editor,

To most readers Kaveinga E. Folau Na'ati and Taulea Pau might seem on opposite sides of the fence, however, I propose that they are the same. Shame on both of them for not having the intestinal fortitude to stand up for what they believe in by putting their real names on their letters.

It is people who are not willing to truly stand up for what they believe in that causes so many problems in this country. Too few Tongans are willing to make that leap of faith and put everything on the line for a purpose that they sincerely believe in with all their heart and mind. During these trying and dire times for our beloved country we do not need child-like bickering and name-calling.

'Oku fiema'u ke tau fai ha ngaahi lea 'oku langa hake he 'oku mahu'inga 'a e ongoongo 'a e tokotaha kotoa, 'ikai ngata ai ka 'oku tau Tonga kotoa pe, pea 'oku mahu'inga ke tau fai ha ngaahi ngaue ke langa 'a e fakalakalaka ki 'olunga 'ikai ko e holoki ki lalo, he ko'eni kuo kamata ke tau 'ulungaanga'aki 'a e holomui ai pe ki mui. Ka ko e me'apango, kuo hoko 'a e lea kovi ke fai ia ki he kakai kehekehe 'o e fonua pea pehee foki ki he pule'anga pea mo e hou'eiki ko e me'angaue ia ke ngaue'aki ke te manakoa pe fiefia ai ha ni'ihi tokosi'i. Mahalo ko e me'a ia na'e 'ikai ke 'ai ai ho'omo takitaha hingoa 'i ho'omo tohi he 'oku fepaki 'a e me'a 'oku mo tohi mo e me'a na'e ako'i atu 'i he 'uluaki 'apiako - 'a e kaliloa. Koia ai, tuku ho'omo lau lao mo e ngaahi me'a kehekehe ko'ena, he ko'ena hangehange pe kuo mo 'osi 'ilo'i fakatou'osi pe 'e kimoua kuo mo maumau'i 'a e 'uluaki konisitutone na'e tohi 'i ho'omo loto mo 'atamai mei 'api.

So to say things in short, if you are not willing to do this simple act of penning your real name on such matters, then what you have to say has as much weight as hot air spewing out of a kettle that vanishes within a second.

I'd like to quote the 44th President of the United States of America who gave his inaguration speech yesterday, who said, ". . . On this day, we come to proclaim an end to the petty grievances and false promises, the recriminations and worn out dogmas, that for far too long have strangled our politics. We remain a young nation, but in the words of Scripture, the time has come to set aside childish things."

Malo 'aupito,

Daniel K. Fale
