Mate Ma'a Tonga crushes Scotland in last match of RLWC [1]

The Mate Ma'a Tonga ended its 2008 Rugby League World Cup campaign on a high note with a 48-0 victory over Scotland, at Rockhampton's Browne Park, Australia on Saturday, November 8.

But the high hopes by the Mate Ma'a Tonga for a semi-final game ended when they were defeated by the Toa Samoa, 18-22 earlier in the tournament.

The Toa Samoa, however, ended its 2008 Rugby League World Cup campaign in a disaster when they were thrashed by Ireland 36-6 on Wednesday, November 6.

The Mate Ma'a Tonga on the other hand in their first game of the tournament beat the Irish 22-20 at Paramata Stadium, Sydney, Australia on October27.

The Mate Ma'a Tonga team displayed a superb performance, and out-standing players were Tony Williams, Feleti Mateo, 'Epalahame Lauaki, Lopini Paea, 'Etuate Uaisele, and in fact the whole Mate Ma'a Tonga team were very sharp.

In the defeat of Scotland at half time they were leading 24-0 and in the second half they added on another 24 points to make it 48-0. The Mate Ma'a Tonga scored a total of 8 tries and are now ranked at No. 7 at the Rugby League world ranking.

In their Pool 3 ranking, Ireland took the lead, followed by Tonga with the Toa Samoa in third place.

Meanwhile, the Samoan Women's rugby league team, Fetu Samoa thrashed the Tongan Women's Rugby League team, 'Esiafi, 40-0 on Thursday, November 6 at Stockland Park, Lake Kawana, on the Sunshine Coast in Australia.
