The Office of the Anti-Corruption Commissioner (ACC) and Tonga Police have confirmed that the ACC’s Director of Investigations and three investigators, all seconded from Tonga Police, resigned from their roles effective on 17 April 2026.
In a joint statement on 23 April, both the Anti-Corruption Commissioner (ACC) and Tonga Police stated the officers had asked for confidentiality surrounding their departures.
"The officers haver requested that this matter be handled with confidentiality and that no retaliatory actions be taken. Both the ACC and Tonga Police respect this request and will not comment on anty matters raised or reasons for their resignations."
Meanwhile, Tonga Police Commissioner has indicated that the officers will not be immediately recalled to police duties, as suitable replacements need to be identified first.
"Interim arrangements are in place to support continuity of investigations and the delivery of the ACC's mandate."
The ACC stated that the Commissioner had invited the Director to meet and discuss concerns raised internally but these discussions did not proceed and opportunity to meet remains open.
The matter is expected to be reviewed by the Tonga Police Senior Executive Committee, with further decisions to be coordinated alongside the Anti-Corruption Commissioner.
According to reports on the Anti-Corruption Commissioner official Facebook, the Director of Investigations is identified as Ms. Kalisi Tohifolau, who was first seconded on November, 2024.
The other investigators who resigned have not been identified.
