Child hospitalised after falling from moving van [1]

A 7-year-old boy remains at Vaiola Hospital, where he is receiving treatment for injuries after he fell from the back of a moving van, 14 April 2026 in Popua.

The driver, a 31-year-old male from Patangata, currently residing at Fanga 'o Piloleva, has been arrested and remains in police custody. Tonga Police says the investigations into the incident are ongoing.

"It is reported that the child fell from the back of a moving van onto the roadway," Tonga Police stated.

Tonga Police are urging all drivers to exercise extra caution on the roads, particularly when transporting passengers in trucks.

With the ongoing four-day 99th Inter-Collegiate Sports 2026, and crowds at the Teufaiva Stadium, motorists are reminded to ensure that all passengers are safe at all times and to comply with all road safety requirements.
