Queen Salote College marked its centennial today, 12 March 2026, with church service followed by a grand celebration at Mala'e Pangai Lahi in Nukuʻalofa, honouring the history and legacy of the college established in 1926.
Over 3,000 people gathered at Mala'e Pangai Lahi, next to the Royal Palace, including members of the Tongan Royal Family, local and overseas alumni, foreign dignitaries, current students, and families.
The sun came out for the historic celebration for the all-girls school. The first entertainment item of the day was performed by HRH Princess Halaevalu Mataʻaho Tukuʻaho, a Form 2 student at Queen Salote College.
The highlight of the celebration was a remarkable māʻuluʻulu performance by 800 Queen Salote College students.
Seated in the centre of the first row of the māʻuluʻulu was the vahenga, Princess Halaevalu Mataʻaho, the granddaughter of King Tupou VI. The vahenga is a position traditionally given to the performer of the highest social rank.
Queen Nanasipau'u is the president of the Queen Salote College Old Girls Association.
The celebrations coincide with the birthday of the late Queen Salote Tupou II who was born on 13 March 1900.
