The retail prices for all petroleum products for Tongatapu will increase in the new year, Petrol by 5 seniti/litre, Kerosene by 10 seniti/litre and Diesel by 15 seniti/litre. The price changes were approved by the Tonga Competent Authority to be effective this Friday, 2 January 2026.

They stated that the January 2026 price change is based on the November 2025 average of the published daily Mean of Platts Singapore (MOPS) benchmark prices for product prices and freight, along with that month’s exchange rate. The average crude oil price for November was lower than the October prices by US$0.07/bbl while all product prices increased, including petrol, diesel and kerosene prices.

The averge freight prices also increased by around 7.8% during November and the Tongan pa’anga weakened slightly against the US dollar, with prices increasing marginally as a result.
