A medical team from China will be delivering free medical services at the Ngū Hospital in Vava’u, starting this week from 20-29 November.
The team, consisting of six doctors specializing in different medical fields, arrived in Tonga on 16 July and have been providing medical services at Vaiola Hospital
Their services include diagnosing different mental illnesses, health screenings, non-invasive medical procedures, orthopedic and gynecologic surgeries, acupuncture, and advanced medical tests.
Team leader and Pathologist, Dr Lu Qingyang (Luke) told Matangi Tonga that they’ve dealt with over 100 cases in the past four months.
“We were sent here to help the Tongan people, to supply better medical services that aren’t available here,” he said.
Dr Luke and his team each have over a decade of professional experience in their respective fields. They plan to spend a year in Tonga on their medical-aid mission before returning home.
“When we go back, I hope that we leave behind some knowledge and skills that will help the people,” Dr Luke said.
The team brought their own equipment, drugs and medication.
The team is set to depart from Tongatapu to Vava’u tomorrow morning on19 November, to deliver medical services that are currently unavailable at the island
The anesthetist, Dr Hao Yuliang, left for Vava’u a week ago.
