Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police Forum opens [1]

The Pacific Island Chiefs of Police Forum (PICP) was officially opened yesterday, 3 September, by the Prime Minister and Minister for Police, Hon. Hu’akavameiliku.
Tonga Police Commissioner, Shane McLennan said it was important for the PICP having a strong and coordinated voice in their efforts to combat the threats of cybercrime and transnational organized crime. Mr McLennan has been the Chair of the PICP for the past two years.
Hon. Hu'akavameiliku said there was a focus on peace efforts at the 53rd PIF and he hoped to strengthen police forces and community support. He also acknowledged the 20th anniversary of the PICP Women’s Advisory Network (WAN) and its contributions.
Tonga Police said in a social media post that it had been 20 years since Tonga last hosted the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police (PICP) Forum.
“We are proud to welcome the Forum back this year –Tonga Police is honored to bring together law enforcement leaders from across the region as we continue to collaborate in strengthening our police forces."
Cabinet ministers, diplomats, delegations of the Chiefs of Police from the region, partners and others attended the ceremony.
