PM heads Finance Ministry [1]

The portfolio of the Minister of Finance has been taken over by the Prime Minister, Hon. Dr Feleti Sevele. Following the resignation of the Minister of Finance yesterday.

The Deputy Secretary for Cabinet and the Prime Minister's Office, Paula Ma'u said that it was common practice for vacant ministerial posts to come under the Prime Minister, and it will remain with the PM "until a new Minister of Finance is appointed."

No explanation has been given for the resignation of Siosiua 'Utoikamanu who has been Finance Minister for the past seven years.
