Kolovai teen died from hit and run [1]

A 19 year old male from Kolovai died yesterday, 23 July, at Vaiola Hospital, from critical injuries sustained in a hit and run accident on Monday 22 July.
“The victim died yesterday, due to serious injuries,” Tonga Police reported today.
The incident was reported to the Nukunuku Police Station by a member of the public who discovered the victim on the roadside between 'Atata Si'i and Fo'ui villages on Monday morning.
A suspect, a 50 year old male from 'Ahau has been arrested in connection with the incident.
"The suspect remains in police custody pending further investigation."
The accident was the fourth road death this year.
Collision
Tonga Police also reported another accident occured yesterday morning, 23 July.
“At approximately 12:55 am, a collision occurred on Taufa'ahau Road at Haveluloto involving two vehicles. One of the drivers, a 21 year old male from Havelu has been arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
“The other driver, a 46 year old male from 'Utulau sustained a right leg fracture and is currently receiving treatment at Vaiola Hospital.”
Tonga Police said they were continuing with the investigation of this incident.
They reminded drivers to adhere to speed limits, drive sober and to follow traffic regulations.
“Pursuant to section 47 of the Traffic Act, drivers involved in accidents are mandated to stop and offer assistance to the injured person and to report the accident to the nearest police station,” Tonga Police stated.
