King commissions new HMAF Leadership Centre [1]

King Tupou VI commissioned a new Leadership Centre for His Majesty's Armed Forces (HMAF) , at the Masefield Naval Base, Touliki, this morning, 2 July.
The King, accompanied by Queen Nanasipau'u and the New Zealand Defence Minister, Judith Collins, toured the Leadership Center's main hall, followed by the Crown Prince and Princess, and their guests.
The $6.5 million centre was partly funded by New Zealand's Defence Force and the NZ Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The center will help HMAF in educating and training of its members in leadership.
Colonel-in-Chief of HMAF, HRH Crown Prince Tupouto’a ‘Ulukalala, in his keynote address, said, “This Leadership Center is not only to strengthen our core military skill that is critical to HMAF fulfilling its mandate, such as the National Response to Climate Change and Natural Diasaters, but also the product of the centre will strengthen HMAF’s relationship with our people and our defence partners.
"I believe the capabilities we develop and the values that our leaders live by, are telling about Tonga’s intentions and interests, and works directly to our position as a truthful and transparent partner," the Crown Prince said.
The Component Commander & Training Command, Lieutenant Colonel Soane MV ‘Aholelei acknowledged the significance of this milestone for HMAF’s journey towards fostering excellence, innovation, and visionary leadership.
"The establishment of the Leadership Centre recognises the importance of leadership to both HMAF and the NZ Defence Force," he added.
The Prime Minister, Hon. Hu'akavameiliku, and members of Parliament also attended the ceremony.
