A 63 year old man from Longolongo died in hospital on Wednesday, 19 June, after he was admitted on 17 June, after being hit by a vehicle on the 'Alaivahamama'o Bypass Road, at Longolongo.

Tonga Police reported the incident happened at approximately 5:50 am on Monday. The man was rushed to Vaiola Hospital by Police who arrived on the incident site.

The suspect is a 74 year old male, also from Longolongo, who first appeared in court on charges related this matter, on 20 June.

This case is the third road fatality recorded in June and this year to date.

Tonga Police reminded the public that “road safety is everyone's responsibility”. Police urged drivers to exercise caution on the road, and also reminded pedestrians to take additional care when walking near to roads and when crossing roads.
