Tofua activity decreases, while monitoring continues [1]

The Tofua volcano has significantly decreased the number of events, from 13 events to 6 events, shown in Figure 1 for 24 hours up to 6:30 am this morning, 8 May. The latest event was recorded at 01:06 am local time this morning, 8 May 2024.
Tonga Geological Services reported ongoing magmatic activities in Tofua, that have been indicated by the fluctuations in the ground thermal levels.
Meanwhile, there was no volcanic ash cloud detected in the 24 hours, based on satellite images for Report no. 11 issued at 6:30am this morning, May 8). "Monitoring of the eruption is ongoing with daily notices issued on the status of the eruption," TGS advised.
All Mariners are advised to sail beyond 1.08 nautical miles from Tofua Volcano.
A preliminary Volcanic Hazard Map in Figure 2, indicates the restricted zone for the Tofua Volcano.
The volcano activity poses low risk to the Vava'u and Ha'apai Communities.
Tofua is located 76.1 km west of Pangai, Ha'apai at Latitude & Longitude 19.75°S, 175.0?°W.
