Aviation to be vigilant while Tofua Volcano shows ongoing activity [1]

The aviation community was issued a Yellow ACC alert to be vigilant today while magmatic activities on Tofua volcano are continuing. There were a total of 13 events recorded over the last 24 hours, additional to the seven events in the previous report, the Tonga Geological Services, reported today, 3 May.
The yellow alert means that the aviation community needs to be vigilant, when flying near the area of the volcano, located 76.1 km west of Pangai, Ha'apai in central Tonga.
The latest reported event was recorded at 1:36 AM this morning (Figure 1).
“The current status of the thermal anomaly monitored over the past 24 hours was observed to be low to moderate compared to 26 - 27 of April, 2024,” TGS stated. It is closely monitoring the thermal signatures emitted from Tofua, for major changes.
There was no volcanic ash cloud detected in the last 24 hours, based on satellite images.
The preliminary volcanic hazard map in figure 2 indicates the restricted zone for Tofua Volcano.
Meanwhile, the volcano activity poses low risk to the Vava'u and Ha'apai Communities.
All Mariners are advised to sail beyond 1.08 nautical miles from Tofua Volcano until further notice.
Tofua is located at Latitude & Longi tude 19.75°S, 175.07 °W in the South Pacific Ocean.
