Seven males and two females were arrested on charges related to illicit drugs and unlicensed ammunition last week by Tonga Police during multiple police raids at different locations.

Police seized a total of ten packs of cannabis, four packs of methamphetamine, seventeen ammunitions for a .22 rifle, cash and utensils.

“Drug use has many serious consequences including creating a significant burden on families, friends and communities,” Tonga Police stated. “As well as the negative health effects of drug use, penalties under the Illicit Drugs Control Act in Tonga, range from fines of between $10,000 to $1,000,000 and with potential jail sentences from 3 years to life imprisonment,” the Police warned.

Tonga Police today urged anyone with information about illicit drugs to contact (676) 740-1657, 740-1660 or 922 “and help keep our families and the community safe from the unwanted harm caused by illicit drugs.”
