Magistrate grants bail for woman in meth case [1]

A magistrate has granted bail for a woman, one of two siblings, arrested on 10 February in relation to the police seizure of 15.657kg of methamphetamine in Nuku'alofa, while her brother remains in custody.
‘Ana Longolongo Kolokihakaufisi (37) and her brother, a senior reserve bank official Tēvita Nonu Kolokihakaufisi (39), first appeared before a magistrate on 12 February, and were remanded in custody to 16 February. He was not permitted bail and remains in custody.
Tonga Police said this evening that the Police investigation into the matter was near completion.
They reminded the public that the accused remained innocent until proven guilty by the courts.
“Due to the sensitivity of the judicial processes and the independence of criminal investigation, we urge for the public support by refraining from spreading assumptions and opinions that may interfere and compromise the ongoing investigation.”
Tonga Police stated that they are fully committed to protecting the community from the negative impact of illicit drugs. “We urge anyone with information related to the case and illicit drugs to come forward and report it to the police but not on social media, as it does not help.”
