By-Election for Vava'u 14 set for 28 March [1]

A by-election to elect a new Parliamentary Representative for Vava’u 14 constituency, will be held on Thursday, 28 March, 2024 to fill a the seat vacated by Hon. Dr Saia Ma’u Piukala, who resigned to take up a new role overseas.
The Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Lord Fakafanua, on January 30 issued to the Electoral Commission, a writ of election to elect a new Parliamentary Representative for the people of Vava’u 14 Constituency.
The date for the by-election was a set for 28 March, after consultation between the Speaker and the Chairman of the Electoral Commission, the Rt. Hon. Lord Dalgety K.C, as required by the Legislative Assembly Act.
Hon. Dr. Piukala handed over his resignation letter to the Speaker on 26 January, as he leaves to take up new role as the WHO Regional Director for Western Pacific.
He waa was first elected to Parliament in 2014, and re-elected in the 2017 and 2021 general elections. He served as an MP for over ten years.
The Legislative Assembly is set to reconvene on 12 February.
