Improved pass rates in Tonga F6 Certificate 2023 [1]

The Tonga Form Six Certificate 2023 exam results, released last week, showed the overall Form Six passing rates increased to 51% compared to 33% in 2022.
Ten out of 20 subjects had candidates achieving the distinction grade level (93-100%) in the results released by the Tonga Ministry of Education and Training (MET) on 11 January, 2024.
Twenty-six schools offered the TFSC programme in 2023, including 12 schools in Tongatapu and 14 from the outer islands.
A total of 1490 candidates registered in 2023. This was up from 1378 candidates in 2022.
The candidate results are presented in various Achievement Grade Levels including Distinction (93-100%), Excellence (77-92%), Merit (55-76%), Achieve (48-57%), and Beginner (less than 48%).
Candidate scores are not part of the results.
The 10 subjects with candidates achieving the distinction grade level (93-100%) were: Accounting (3), Biology (1), Computing and ICT (5), Design Technology (1), English (1), Geography (1), Lea FakaTonga (4), Mathematics (2), Physics (1) and Tonga Moe Anga Fakafonua (2).
Fourteen candidates from Tonga High School, two candidates from Ha’apai High School, and one candidate each from ‘Apifo’ou College and Lavengamalie College achieved a distinction in one or more of the subjects.

Meanwhile, the best performing school was ‘Eua High School with 88%.
Second is Niuatoputapu High School achieving 79% followed by Ha’apai High School with 78%.
The most improved school was St. Andrews High School, improved by 61%; second was Tupou High School by 48%, and third was Lavengamalie College improved by 47%.
Three new entrants to the TFSC examination in 2023 with their individual pass rates were, St. Joseph Community College (55%), Mizpah Adventist College (37%), and Hofangahau College 26%.
The re-score process will begin today, Monday 15 January to Monday 29 January.
