Over 100 VHF digital portable transceivers were set up for Tonga Police, by the Australian Federal Police (AFP), through Tonga-Australia Policing Partnership (TAPP), to build the radio communication network capability of Tonga Police.

Technicians from the AFP helped to set up the network across Tongatapu and ‘Eua, with Vava'u and Ha'apai to follow soon, stated Australia in Tonga.

"These radios will assist Tonga Police to respond to incidents for the community and provide increased safety for officers."

In an emergency situation like a cyclone, earthquake or tsunami, radio communications are vital, particularly in communicating with other emergency services and agencies.
