Tonga Police have launched a homicide investigation into unidentified human remains found on the seabed at the Yellow Pier on the Nuku’alofa foreshore.

Two fishermen made the discovery at around 3:00 am on Christmas morning 25 December.

“The human remains have been transferred to the mortuary at the Vaiola Hospital awaiting [a] thorough examination by a pathologist to assist Police investigations and hopefully with identification of the deceased,” Tonga Police stated this afternoon.

They are urging the public to report any missing persons.

“Please contact Police on 922 or 740-1630 or 740-1632 with any information that may be useful to the ongoing investigations,” Police stated.
