Tonga’s national beach soccer team competed and placed fourth at the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) Beach Soccer Nations Cup, held in Tahiti last week.
After reaching the semi-finals, Tonga was defeated by Fiji (12-0) last week in the bronze medal match, where Gabriele Matanisiga scored six goals for Fiji.
Tonga's coach, Penisimani Fatafehi said that he is still proud of the boys while comparing their age to their achievements throughout the tournament.
"My 15-year-old boys made two goals today for Tonga - so for me I'm pretty proud."
The host country Tahiti, after defeating Solomon Islands (7-0), concluded the championship in first place.
This is the third time that Tahiti has won the tournament, and their victory earned them a place at the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, which is scheduled to open on 15 February next year in the United Arab Emirates.
Tonga’s first official OFC Futsal and Beach Soccer tournament was in 2019.
