Japanese destroyer arrives in Nuku'alofa [1]

Japan's Maritime Self-Defence Force (JMSDF), the JS Shiranui, an Asahi-class destroyer, docked at Vuna Wharf, Nuku'alofa, early this morning, 28 August.
Its Tonga visit is part of an Indo-Pacific Deployment. Tomorrow, Tuesday, the ship will conduct a Japan-Tonga goodwill exercise with His Majesty's Armed Forces (HMAF) joined by American and Australian soldiers.
The Embassy of Japan stated that the Commanding Officer of the Shiranui, Commander Minami Kazuhiro and his crew looks forward to their first call on Tonga. They welcomed HRH, Crown Prince Tupouto'a 'Ulukalala, on a boarding tour and a guard of honour salute, earlier today.
Guam will be the next port of call for the Shiranui, after departing Nuku'alofa on 30 August.
