Japan's GGP funds Te'ekiu water supply and classrooms for 'Ahopanilolo, Vava'u, 'Eua [1]

Over USD$200,000 has been committed by the Government of Japan to four different projects in Tongatapu, ‘Eua and Vava’u, under the Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Project' (GGP).
The Ambassador of Japan to Tonga, HE Mr. Kensaku Munenaga, signed the grants with the representatives from each project at the Ministry of Finance, St. George Government Building on 25 August. The Minister for Finance, Hon. Tiofilusi Tiueti was also present.
The Ambassador said the first project is the restoration of the water supply system for Te'ekiu village. According to the Ministry of Health, the current well is contaminated, so Japan assisted in the relocation of their water system to a new and safer water source.( $71,609)
“We will also install two water pumps to distribute enough water to the entire village. Through this GGP, I hope that all the families in the village will have better access to clean and safe water, 24 hours a day”.
New classrooms
The second project is the construction of a new classroom for 'Ahopanilolo Technical Institute for a new course for the National Certificate in Work Readiness and Employment Skills. ($72,900)
In 'Eua, the project will fund the renovation of the classroom for the 'Ohonua Government Middle School, where the roof has become so deteriorated that, when it rains, the students have to move around carrying their desks and chairs to avoid leakage. ($69,000)
In Vava'u, the project will fund construction of a new classroom for a kindergarten in the Pangaimotu Government Middle School. ($72,000)
