Cash support to help tsunami recovery for affected households [1]

A Tonga Red Cross Society Household Recovery Assistance project will provide cash assistance to build new homes for some affected by the Hunga-Tonga Hunga-Ha'apai volcanic eruption and tsunamis in 2022.
A collaboration with the Tongan Government, the project is estimated at a total cost of $850,000 pa’anga, with Tonga Red Cross under a HTHH appeal support, covering 5% contribution towards the new homes being build by the Ministry of Infrastructure (MOI) in a Government Housing Reconstruction Program.
Earlier this month, an MOU was signed between the MOI Minister, Hon. Sevenitini Toumo'ua, Minister of Finance, Hon. Tiofilusi Tiueti alongside Tonga Red Cross Society (TRCS) Vice-President, Drew Havea.
TRCS stated this project will provide cash assistance to some of the households that were affected by the HTHH natural disasters.
A few households have been selected from Nomuka, Fonoi, Ha’afeva, Tungua, Kotu and Pangai from the Ha’apai Group with Kanokupolu, ‘Ahau, Kolomotu’a, Sopu, Patangata, Siesia on Tongatapu with ‘Ohonua, Mango ('Eua) and 'Eueiki.
