There is no immediate threat or warning associated with the Tofua volcano and although the eruption is considered a normal occurrence, the localized volcanic activity is being closely monitored by the Tonga Geological Services.

In a second public notice issued on 8 July, TGS stated that based on the current data and observations, the eruption at the Tofua volcano is considered a normal occurrence.

There have been no significant seismic or thermal activities recorded.

“At this time, there is no immediate threat or warning associated with the eruption.”

However, TGS urged all residents and visitors to remain vigilant and stay informed through official channels.

The Volcano Monitoring Center acknowledged the cooperation with the Tonga Met Services, the Town Officer of Kotu and the Resort Owner of Uoleva in reporting observations.

Facebook users, including Daryl Marsden (who took pictures of the volcanic island on 4 July) were also commended for sharing images and videos providing better visualization and understanding of the eruption.

The centre will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide regular updates to the public.
