A highlight of the Tonga Rugby Union's centennial year celebrations this week was a red float parade held in the Nuku'alofa CBD on Saturday, 1 July 2023.
The Tonga Rugby Union [2] celebrations brought together the ‘Ikale Tahi Club and members of the local rugby community, their families and supporters.
Their program started on Saturday morning, 1 July with the ‘Ikale Tahi, joining ex-‘Ikale Tahi players and Tonga Rugby Union making a traditional presentation to King Tupou VI, at the Royal Palace led by the Prime Minister, Hon. Hu'akavameiliku.
This was followed by a colourful float parade held under a theme Simply Red.
Later in the evening, the Prime Minister presented medals and certificates to some of the ex-'Ikale Tahi players, at Vuna Wharf.
On Friday, 14 July the 'Ikale Tahi will play Australia A at the Teufaiva Outdoor Stadium.
This will be followed by two home test matches against Canada on 10-15 August, the first matches hosted by Tonga on home soil, since 2017.
