New ambulances and medical equipment presented by Japan [1]

Essential medical equipment, including two new ambulances valued at USD320,000 from Japan were handed over to the Ministry of Health today, 9 June, by Japan's Ambassador HE Mr. Kensaku Munenaga.
The Minister of Health, Hon. Dr Saia Piukala, received the gift at the Ministry of Health office.
The Ambassador said that King Tupou VI had mentioned in his royal address in the closing of Parliament late last month, that although the effects of the corona virus had decreased, maintaining good health is our determination. “His Majesty’s insightful point should be well regarded.”
"Japan will continue to strengthen Tonga’s medical system and support people’s efforts to be healthy by providing technical assistance for anti-NCDs measurements. It will be a lifelong battle for everyone. However, as you did during the COVID-19 pandemic in the last two years, you can make it.”
The equipment included 13 medical waste containers, six electrocardiograms, three ICU beds, eight stretchers, 10 wheel chairs, 20 IV stands, eight syringe pumps, and two brand new ambulances.
Dr Piukala extended the Government and the people of Tonga’s gratitude to Japan for its ongoing assistance to the Ministry of Health,.
“The equipment will make a difference in our provision of health services to the people,” he said.
The medical equipment is the third and final batch of a USD1.5 million made under Japan’s Non-Project Grant Assistance.
