Five candidates for Tongatapu 10 By-Election July 13 [1]

Five candidates will be contesting the seat for the Tongatapu 10 People's Representative to the Tonga Legislative Assembly, in a By-Election to be held on Thursday, 13 July. 

The names of the candidates were released by the Electoral Commission, after nominations closed at 3:00pm today. They are:

  1. Matani Nifofa, Kolonga
  2. Senimili Tu'i'onetoa Fonua, Makaunga
  3. Daniel Kimball Fale, Lapaha
  4. Kapelieli Militoni Lanumata, Lapaha
  5. Fotu Kuohiko Valeli Fisi'iahi, Niutoua

Tongatapu 10 constituency includes Afā, ‘Eueiki, Hoi, Kolonga, Lapaha, Makaunga, Manuka, Navutoka, Niutoua, Nukuleka, Talafo'ou and Talasiu.

The By-Election is to fill the seat vacated by the late Hon. Pohiva Tu’i’onetoa (71) who passed away on 18 March this year. A former Prime Minister from 2019-2021, he died in the United States, after going there for medical reasons in late 2022.
