Normal Parliamentary election for Tonga in 2008 [1]

Although the Legislative Assembly has resolved that the democratic parliamentary and political reform will come into full effect in 2010, the Prime Minister, Hon. Dr. Feleti Sevele, in accordance with the Constitution and the Legislative Assembly Act, which both require general elections to be held every three years, the last election being on 17 March 2005, has advised HM the King, the Hon. Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Cabinet Ministers and members of the Legislative Assembly that a general election under the current political structure will be held in 2008 and the timetable is as follows: 22 October, 2007, Printing of the Provisional Roll; 31 January, 2008, Writs of Election; 14 February, 2008, Printing of the Final Roll; 27 February, 2008Nomination of Candidates; 23 April, 2008; Noble...s Election Day; 24 April, 2008, People...s Election Day.
