Five people including a 30-year-old male driver were injured in a road crash at Pea on Sunday, 14 May. Another 22-year-old woman was injured at Ma’ufanga, when she crashed her vehicle on 15 May.
Police received the Pea crash report on Sunday at around 7:40pm, where the driver and his four passengers were injured. They included a 42-year-old woman with three children, aged 10, five and three-years old.
It is alleged the vehicle was heading in a northern direction on Taufa’ahau Road when the driver sped and lost control of the wheel, which caused the car to swerve and hit another vehicle that was parked on the side of the road adjacent to the Free Wesleyan Church, before crashing onto the church’s fence.
The victims were rushed to the Vaiola Hospital where their injuries are being treated. Tonga Police stated that their investigations are continuing.
Ma'ufanga
On Monday morning, 15 May there a road crash was reported at Ma’ufanga.
Police alleged that the 22-year-old woman from Ma’ufanga drove her vehicle into another vehicle driven by a 45-year-old man.
The woman who was travelling in a southern direction on Kumifonua Road at Ma’ufanga reportedly failed to stop at the Kumifonua and ‘Alaivahamama’o By-Pass intersection. After colliding with the other car, her car crashed into a residential house on the roadside.
“Fortunately, there were no severe injuries, but the female driver remains at the hospital for minor treatment,” Tonga Police stated.
Deputy Commissioner Operations Tevita Vailea said these road accidents are preventable.
“We need every driver and road user to take their responsibility while on the road seriously, for their safety, and the safety of others."
