'Lest we forget' ANZAC Day commemoration on 25 April, remembered the day when ANZAC forces consisting of Australian and New Zealand forces (including Tongan soldiers) landed at Gallipoli, Turkey, during World War One in 1915.
Tonga marked the day with a Public Holiday and a dawn service at the Cenotaph in Nuku'alofa, hosted by the Australian High Commission.
The service started with a pause of acknowledgement to the contribution and sacrifices made by all personnel who have served, and those who continue to serve, across Australia, New Zealand and Tonga.
Prince Ata, the Hon. Prime Minister Hu'akavemeiliku, diplomatic corps laid wreaths with veterans, defence personnel, and many distinguished guests to reminisce the fallen.
Acting Australian High Commissioner, Erin Gleeson said, “this day commemorates the courage and resolve of those people who more than 100 years ago, and ever since, put their lives on the line to defend our interests and the values for which we stand...”
