The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' most sacred place in Tonga, the Tonga Temple was opened for public viewing today, Sept 25.
The occasion was a special privilege for non LDS members to set foot in a LDS temple.
The first to tour the temple this morning was His Majesty King George Tupou V and the Queen Mother Halaevalu Mata'aho.
The Open House for public viewing will go on for a week until October 20, and during this time 50,000 people are expected to have visited the temple.
The temple was first build in 1983, but during the past 15 months it underwent major refurbishing and expansion. The temple now covered an area of 1755 square meters, and estimated to have caused several million.
The construction was carried out by Ca'Bella Pacific Construction Ltd, a local construction company.
