Fifteen young women from the Eremeran Study Centre in Sydney, Australia volunteered in Nuku'alofa for two-weeks earlier this month, assisting people in the community.
The Catholic Diocese of Tonga, said the visitors assisted with the painting of classrooms, developing leadership skills, visiting homes, hospitals and providing hampers.
They worked on painting the St. Joseph Business College operated by the church, alongside a group of second year students, who volunteered their holiday time to work with the Aussie girls, while sharing the Tongan culture.
The students participated in a leadership and first aid workshop organised by the Australians based on the “7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens”, a book written by Sean Covey.
The workshop was aimed to inspire strong leaders for the future of Tonga and help the participants grow in self-knowledge and vision.
The Australians stated they valued their interaction with the people they worked with and extended their gratitude to the Catholic Diocese, staff of Toumaimana Center, St. Joseph Business College for their hospitality and support, during their visit.
