Two new vehicles that will be used to support the Tonga Police Tactical Response and Close Personal Protection Teams were donated by China.
Chinese Ambassador HE Mr. Cao Xiaolin handed over the two new Toyota Land Cruisers to Police Commissioner Shane McLennan, at the Tonga Police Headquarters in Longolongo in December.
The donation was under the funding assistance from China’s Dongguan Foreign Affairs Bureau.
The Ambassador acknowledged the strong ties between China and Tonga, since the establishment of their official diplomatic relations in 1998.
He said they believed in helping others to help themselves. They are providing aid to Tonga in various areas.
Commissioner McLennan thanked the Chinese Ambassador and the Government of the People’s Republic of China for their generous support by funding several development projects for Tonga Police.
The new vehicles will effectively deliver on their legal responsibilities and policing services to the people of Tonga, he said.
