Diplomatic week welcomes Ambassadors [1]

Eight Non-Resident Ambassadors to Tonga presented their credentials to King Tupou VI, at the Royal Palace in Nuku’alofa.
THe Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that this was the first in-person credential ceremonies, since the COVID-19 pandemic and was held during diplomatic week from 5-9 December.
On 6 December, the King received the Letters of Credence from Head of Mission:
- Belgium: H.E. Mr. Michel Goffin - Embassy of the Kingdom of Belgium in Canberra
- Brazil: HE. Mr. Marcos Arbizu de Souza Campos - Embassy of the Federative Republic of Brazil in Wellington
- Cuba: HE. Mr. José Manuel Galego Montano - Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in Suva
- Hungary: HE. Dr. Zsolt Gabor Hetesy, Embassy of Hungary in Wellington
- USA: H.E. Ms. Marie C. Damour - Embassy of the United States of America in Suva
- UAE: HE. Mr. Rashed Matar Sultan Alsiri Algemzi - Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Wellington
- Netherlands: HE. Mr. Ard van der Vorst - Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Wellington
- United Nations: Mr. Sanaka Samarashinha - United Nations Resident Coordinator, United Nations Office in Suva.
Diplomatic week takes place twice annually, in which newly appointed Ambassadors and High Commissioners, accredited to the Tonga Governmen,t present their Letters of Credence to His Majesty the King.
“It is an opportunity to cultivate long lasting and strong partnerships between the Government of Tonga and the Governments of the Ambassadors and High Commissioners”, stated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nuku’alofa.
