There is jubilation in Nuku'alofa, as Mate Ma'a Tonga bagged their second pool win, defeating a defiant Welsh side 32 - 6 in St Helens, England, this morning (Tonga time).
Wales scored the first try of the game and led 6 - 4 for most of the first half before MMT scored two tries quick succession to lead 16 - 6 at half time.
MMT were made to work hard by desperate Welsh tacklers throughout the match. In the second-half, MMT scored three more tries to put the score at a comfortable 32 - 6.
Although a higher score line was expected from MMT, moments of individual brilliance were a reminder the team has the capacity to contend for the World Cup final.
A brilliant try was scored by centre Tesi Niu who broke and sidestepped through four tacklers, whilst Daniel Tupou scored a hat-trick. David Fifita also scored a spectacular try, carrying three defenders for a try in the first-half.
The historic game was refereed by Kasey Badger, the first woman to referee a Men's international.
