Tiofilusi Tiueti new Minister of Finance [1]

Mr. Tiofilusi Tiueti.

Tiofilusi Tiueti is the new Minister for Finance and National Planning starting on 17 October.

A former long serving civil servant, Tiueti held senior posts including that as CEO for the Ministry of Finance.

Prime Minister Hon. Hu'akavameiliku announced his appointment on 20 October in Nuku'alofa.

Tiueti is currently on official travel attending World Bank and IMF meeting and return on 24 October, said the PM.

Meanwhile, Tiueti returns to Tonga after working abroad having served as CEO and member of the Secretariat for the Pacific Association of Supreme Audit Institutions (PASAI) in Auckland, New Zealand.

He also worked at the World Bank in Washington DC.

Tiueti replaces former Finance Minister Tatafu Moeaki whose election was voided, after losing his appeal against certification of offences of bribery under the Electoral Act, in August this year.
