Mo'ale Finau wins Ha‘apai 12 By-Election [1]

Mo’ale Finau (62) won the Ha’apai 12 By-Election with 338 votes and secured his seat in the Legislative Assembly of Tonga.

The Legislative Aseembly stated that Finau won just six votes ahead of Saimone Vuki, during the By-Election, on 1 September. 

At the same time, Tevita Vaikona came third with 301 votes, followed by Sione Finau Tapu with 299 votes. Tevita Tu’ipulotu came last with 46 votes.

A total of 1,316 voters turned out to vote.

The five candidates contested the seat of the former Ha'apai 12 People’s Representative, Vili Hingano who passed away on 10 June.

Mo'ale has previously represented his electorate in parliament. He was first elected for the same constituency in the 2010 General Election. He lost his seat in the 2014 election, but was re-elected in the 2017 General Election.

He again contested in the 2021 General Election and was unsuccessful.

He is also a former Governor of Ha'apai.
