19 active COVID cases in ‘Eua [1]

Nuku'alofa, Tonga

Thursday, July 14, 2022 - 23:46

‘Eua has of this week recorded 19 active COVID-19 cases.

The CEO for the Ministry of Health Dr Siale ‘Akau’ola, who had recently returned to Tonga from international meetings, said the latest update, was a total of 25 active cases last week on the outer island.

He said six had recovered.

The remaining 19 (10 new cases this week) are in home isolation and doing well. They are being monitored by the health team there and have been advised of the health protocols to adhere to.

Most of the cases are in Hango, he said.

“Although, the virus has only just reached ‘Eua, it is fortunate that most have been vaccinated,” he said.

However, Dr 'Akau'ola encouraged those who are still not vaccinated or have not had boosters to do so.

He advised the public not to be complacent because COVID is still here and there are still different variants abroad.

Meanwhile, Tonga has eased restrictions with domestic travel resuming, due to the satisfactory level of its COVID cases.

From July 1-5, the daily covid cases have been below 20, with 133 total active cases (excluding 'Eua) in the latest figure released by the Ministry of Health.
