Team Tonga shone at the 2022 Pacific Mini Games winning seven medals in total, with its small team ranking 10^th overall on the final medal tally, after competing with much larger teams,.

The Games concluded with a colourful closing ceremony on Saturday, June 25 in Saipan, Northern Marianas.

Team Tonga won four gold medals and three bronze medals.

Three gold medals were claimed by Uaealesi Funaki in an outstanding weightlifting perfomance in the men's 96kg, snatch and clean and jerk.

'Atamaama Tu'utafaiva won one gold medal in the women's shot put event. 

At the same time, ‘Atamaama won bronze in the women's discus. While the women's double tennis took home one bronze and the tennis team also won another bronze.

In a statement TASANOC heralded the results: “This is the best result Team Tonga has achieved from a Pacific Mini Games since it started in 1985.”

Topping the medal tally was Papua New Guinea who took home the most gold medals finishing with 33 gold, 28 silver and 19 bronze medals.

The Pacific Mini Games was held from June 17-25.

The next Games will be hosted in Palau.
