Tonga's former Acting Commissioner for Tonga Police, Brigadier Lord Fielakepa was presented with a token of appreciation for his guidance over the past year in the role.
The newly appointed Tonga Police Commissioner Shane McLennan made the presentation with Tonga Police executives on 1 June.
Brigadier Lord Fielakepa was appointed Acting Commissioner of Police by His Majesty in Privy Council following the departure of former Commissioner of Police, Stephen Caldwell in April 2021.
The Brigadier acknowledged Tonga Police executive members for their assistance during his time as Acting Commissioner, and expressed his gratitude towards the new Commissioner and Tonga Police.
As required by law, the Commissioner must be independent of any influence or interference, political or otherwise in carrying out his duties and responsibilities. This is necessary to protect the rule of law in our nation, said the Police Commissioner.
