Editor,
In regard to Ms.Telesia Finau's letter about the rights of the so-called "fakaleitis", I hereby want to let her know that this is not the issue. The issue is whether or not the young children, say between birth and 15 years of age, should be allowed to watch the Miss Galaxy Pageant shows.
The reason why I brought up this issue in my last letter was my fear that the two small children, approximately 4-6 years of age who were sitting close to me, would in one way or another be adversely affected by the fakaleitis' performances. May I remind you Ms. Telesia Finau that the young children of Tonga too have constitutional rights to appropriate and beneficial environment of education.
I don't think that the two small children I saw in the show would have the mental capacity to handle the performances at the Miss Galaxy Talent Show. I therefore humbly hereby suggest that we stop finding excuses to justify our wrongs and do what is in the best interests of our young children. After all, these young children are the future of Tonga. I think that all parents, government, and the Ms. Galaxy Pageant have moral obligations to protect the young children of Tonga.
So, let us stop planting the seeds of evil in the minds of our young children and do what is good for them. I suspect that the long-term impact of such shows on our children would be tragic and a disaster. I hope not. Prevention is better than cure.
Siosaia Fatani.
