A tropical disturbance (TD03F) located north of Fiji, is forecast to track through southern Tonga waters (Tele-ki-Tokelau and Tele-ki-Tonga) by next Wednesday January 12, the Tonga Meteorological said today.
TD03F was located 540km north of Nadi, Fiji and about 1185km northwest of Nuku’alofa at 7am today.
The potential for this system to develop into a Tropical Cyclone in the next 24 to 48 hours is low. The next forecast for this tropical disturbance will be at 10:00pm today.
Last year, a Tonga Met cyclone outlook report predicted at least two tropical cyclones [2] could cross Tonga waters during this cyclone season with a high chance that one will be severe.
The 2021 / 2022 Tropical Cyclone season runs from 1 November 2021 to 30 April 2022.
