'Ikale Tahi and Japan search for victory [1]

After the second week-ends of the 2007 IRB Pacific Nations Cup Fiji, Samoa, Australian A and the Junior All Blacks, have registered a win each, while the 'Ikale Tahi and Japan are still searching for a victory.

The first game of the tournament was played between the Manu Samoa and the Flying Fijians at Apia Park on Saturday May 20. The Samoan beat the Fijians 8-3.

The next game of the IRB Pacific Nations Cup was between the 'Ikale Tahi and the Australian A on May 25 at Aussie Stadium, Sydney. The 'Ikale Tahi did reasonably well in the first quarter and was leading 8-6. Tonga's score came from a try by Seti Kiole, and a penalty conversion by Fangatapu 'Apikotoa.

After the 'Ikale Tahi's brief moments of glory, the Australians regain their composure and began to dominate all phases of the game. The score at half-time was 13-8. A minute before fulltime Tupou scored a consolation try for Tonga. Fangatapu was successful with his conversion and at full-time the score was 60-15.

On Saturday May 26 the Flying Fijians met Japan at Churchill Park, Lautoka. At half-time Japan was leading 15-3, but during the second half the Fijian threw their lot at the Japanese that at full-time they beat the Japanese 30-15.

The final game of the IRB Pacific Nations Cup for the weekend was the encounter between the Manu Samoa and the Junior All Blacks at Apia Park, Apia.

The New Zealanders had 10 full All Blacks in the Juniors line-up, with heavy-weights such as John Afoa, Rigo Gear, Marty Hola, Ross Filipo, Mose Tuiali'i, Jerome Kaino and Anthony Tu'itavake, the Junior All Blacks were much in control of the game right from the start. It convincingly beat the Manu Samoa 31-10.

This coming week-end, June 2, the Junior All Blacks will play the Flying Fijians in Suva, Fiji. On Saturday also the Manu Samoa will meet the Australian A, and the 'Ikale Tahi will meet Japan in Coff's Harbour, Australia.
