The 152 repatriates who arrived on 28 July from New Zealand have been released from quarantine after testing negative in their third and final COVID-19 test today, confirmed Chief Medical Officer for Public Health, Dr Reynold ‘Ofanoa this afternoon.
The repatriates were quarantined at the Tanoa Hotel in Nuku'alofa.
The next repatriation flights are planned to arrive in Tonga from Pago Pago, Vanuatu, and New Zealand on 25 August.
Meanwhile, the repatriation flight from Brisbane has been deferred to 25 September due to the COVID-19 outbreak there, while Fiji flights have been deferred until further notice, due to their high risk COVID-19 situation.
So far, more than 3,000 people have entered Tonga through quarantine since the border was closed in March 2020.
Tonga remains COVID-19 free.
