More arrests have been made in relation to the cocaine haul seized in Vava’u, said Tonga Police today.
Details of these arrests made last week are expected to be updated by Police soon.
Previously, a total of 12 people have been arrested and charged in relation to allegations over the seizure of 14-kilograms plus cocaine, which is estimated to have a street value of over $5 million pa’anga.
Three accused foreign nationals were released on bail last week. The remaining Tongan accused were still in police custody today.
Their cases are expected to be called at the Magistrate’s Court in Vava’u, tomorrow Tuesday, August 17, when they will be named.
Meanwhile, some have been charged with possession and engaging with others in the supply of illicit drugs. Others have been charged for intentionally lying to Police.
In July, Tonga Police was handed over the first cocaine packets that washed up on Vava’u beaches, prompting a big search operation with more of the illicit drug seized.
The Police investigation continues.
