Tonga provides input on Blue Pacific strategy for region [1]

Tonga is providing further input over a five-day workshop to help develop the regional 2050 strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent, which aims to ensure Pacific people will lead free, healthy and productive lives.
A session on Oceans and Natural Environment was held today 25 May, with representatives from other Pacific countries joining in virtually.
Key themes discussed included enhancing the resilience of Pacific countries, their people and communities to climate change, natural disasters and environmental threats.
And protecting the Pacific ocean’s health and integrity to sustain its life-giving function to the planet and people of the region and the world, and to ensure intergenerational social, cultural, economic and political equity.
This follows on previous consultation workshops held last year looking at key trends and uncertainties that may drive change in the Pacific region amidst challenges such as climate change, COVID-19, and increasing geopolitical interest.
The five-day workshop, started on 20 May, at the Fa’onelua Convention Centre.
Discussions around Technology and connectivity, and resources and economic were held last week.
It will end with a discussion on gender, social inclusion and culture on 27 May.
Tonga aims to put together its final contribution for each theme to the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat on 28 May.
Local participants come from government, civil society organizations, private sector businesses, community leaders, and academia.
